This article is specifically about Rheaply’s inventory management app, Visibility (root.rheaply.com), and may not be relevant if your organization is not using that functionality.

If you need help with printing QR labels, see our Printer Setup Guide article.

What are QR labels?

QR labels are a printed adhesive 1x1” label with a dynamic QR code. When scanned, the QR code links to an item on the Rheaply platform, making it easy to quickly update your inventory while you’re out in the field.

Placement guidelines

Rules of thumb (aka rules of NOSE):

  • When in doubt, follow your “NOSE”:

    • Not affected by normal use

    • Out of sight

    • Soft surfaces might need something else

    • Easy access for scanning

  • Ideally, the label should be out of sight during normal use of the item but still readily accessible for scanning.

  • Ideally, the label should be placed in an area where it will not get rubbed off or peeled off during normal use of the item.

  • For soft items, the QR label may need to be adhered to a piece of cardstock that is stapled to the item.

  • For uniquely shaped items, the guidelines can be sacrificed if a different placement would ensure that the label is out of sight, easily accessible for scanning, and not in danger of being rubbed or peeled off accidentally.

Your best judgment, paired with predictability, is all that is needed. Try to pick a spot that is easy to find based on these recommendations - if it’s straightforward to you and doesn’t involve lifting something heavy, you’ll make it easier to find for your colleagues!
