Manufacturers in Rheaply Inventory

How the manufacturers list works and how to request additions.

Written by Sasha

Managing your asset data accurately helps your organization track and report on physical items effectively. In Rheaply Inventory, the manufacturer field uses a standardized list to ensure consistent data across all teams and departments.

Learn how the fixed manufacturer list operates in Rheaply Inventory, how to request new additions, and what to expect during bulk imports.

This article is helpful if:

  • You are creating or editing a product catalog entry in Rheaply Inventory.

  • You cannot find a specific manufacturer's name in the dropdown menu.

  • You are preparing a bulk import spreadsheet and want to ensure your manufacturer column passes validation.

Where is it done?

  • On the Rheaply Inventory platform at root.rheaply.com when managing products, setting up imports, or filtering reports. Note that this article is exclusive to Rheaply Inventory.

Understanding the manufacturer field

The Manufacturer field on products is a searchable dropdown menu containing a fixed list of roughly 1,500 manufacturers curated and maintained directly by Rheaply. This global list ensures high-quality data and uniform reporting across different systems. You will see this field when creating or editing products, reviewing data during an Import, or applying Filters within your inventory reports.

Can I add my own manufacturer?

No, you cannot manually type a new manufacturer name into the field, as there is no free-text entry available. Additionally, organization admins cannot add manufacturers or customize this list, because it is not org-configurable. The exact same Rheaply-maintained list is shared by every organization on the platform to prevent duplicates and typographical errors. New manufacturers can only be added to the dropdown menu by the Rheaply team through an official product release.

How to request new manufacturers

If you need to use a manufacturer that is not currently included in the dropdown list, you can submit a request to have it added by following these steps:

  1. Gather the full list of manufacturer names you need, checking the exact spelling and capitalization for each one.

  2. Open the in-app help (?) chat or compose an email to help@rheaply.com.

  3. Send your request with the precise names of the manufacturers you want added to the global list.

What happens after your request

Once you submit your addition request, the Rheaply team will process the names for an upcoming product release.

  • Timeline: The typical turnaround for additions is 2–4 weeks.

  • Confirmation: Once the team confirms the addition is complete, the new manufacturer names will automatically appear in the searchable dropdown menu, with no further action required on your part.

  • Follow-up: If a requested manufacturer is still not visible in the dropdown after the stated turnaround window has passed, reply directly to your original support thread or email help@rheaply.com while referencing your initial request. Please note that the automated chat assistant cannot check the status of a pending request.

Frequently asked questions

  1. Why is the list fixed?

    1. This is a limitation of our system in order to promote data quality and consistency within and across organizations.

  2. I requested manufacturers be added... when will they show up? New manufacturers appear automatically in the searchable dropdown once the Rheaply team completes the update, which typically occurs within 2–4 weeks of your request. Our team will email you once it's updated.

  3. Can I import products with a manufacturer that isn't listed yet? During bulk imports using the Import products feature, the values in your Manufacturer column must exactly match names already present on the existing global list. Depending on your organization's configuration, rows containing unknown or unlisted manufacturers will be ignored. To avoid issues, request any missing manufacturers before performing your bulk import.
